Intervention Strategy for Family Members that have difficulty with vacation anticipation
A countdown calendar is a perfect tool to track the days and weeks before vacation. It is an easy way to present the abstract concept of sequence and time in a concrete form. Use text or clip art to identify special events leading up to the trip (taking passport picture, shopping for new clothes, packing suitcases, printing boarding passes, etc.)  Cross off the day on the calendar so he can visually see the approach of the vacation.

Intervention Strategy for Family Members that have Difficulty Waiting

Waiting is a necessary life skill and a big part of traveling. You may need to wait on line at an attraction, to board a plane or cruise ship, to catch a taxi, or to be served in a restaurant. One easy way to support your child while he waits when traveling is to prepare your child with activities and fun things to do while he waits.

W.A.I.T Box
A W.A.I.T Box is an activity box or bag to help your child occupy his time when he is required to wait. The activities and toys included will depend on the child’s age and interests.

- Watch a favorite movie or TV show on a tablet or portable DVD
- Arts and crafts are fun and easy activities to occupy a child when waiting. Pack coloring books, sketchpads, markers, and crayons.
- Include your child’s favorite things: books, stuffed animal, doll
- Take your child’s favorite games: Tic-Tac- Toe, cards, hangman, and word games
